The Miami Marlins got by the Boston Strong at Fenway Park.  The final score

was 8 to 6.

 

Miami erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 9th inning scoring

2 runs utilizing 3 base hits.  After an out was recorded, Starling Marte

kicked off the action when he ripped a single.  Jayson Werth was next to the

plate, but was promptly struck out.  Joe Mauer then smacked a single.

Yasmani Grandal followed and he doubled.  Omar Infante stepped into the box

and drew a walk.  Boston proved to be no trouble in the bottom of the 9th.

 

Ken Giles(2-0) got the win allowing no runs in 1 inning. Cory Rasmus got the

save, his 2nd.  Tom Wilhelmsen(1-1) suffered the loss in relief.  He gave up

3 hits and 1 walk in 2/3 of an inning. 

 

With this win, Miami has a league leading 9-3 record.  They have been 4-6

lately.  Still in a bad slump, with this loss, Boston is 0-10 lately and 8-4

on the year.

Jacob Degrom didn't allow a hit until the 7th inning as the Miami Marlins

defeated the Boston Strong by the score of 1 to 0 at Fenway

Park.

 

Degrom(2-0) came through with a virtuoso performance against the Boston

hitters.  He allowed only 2 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings dropping his ERA

from 4.91 to 3.55.  The right-handed Degrom lost his no-hit bid when Andrew

McCutchen singled with two outs in the 7th inning.  For the game Miami

out-hit Boston 8 to 2. 

 

Shawn Kelley gained credit for his 1st save.  Kyle Lohse(2-1) was given the

loss.  He gave up 5 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings.

 

 

 

 

Game 3:

36,591 fans watched an exciting game at Marlins Park.  The Miami Marlins

topped the Boston Strong by the slimmest of margins, 6 to 5.

 

The game was decided in the 8th inning.  After an out was recorded, Cliff

Pennington laced a one-base hit.  Peter Bourjos next to the plate and he drew

a walk.  Chase Headley dug into the batters box next, but he struck out.

Matt Carpenter came up and he laced a base-hit.  Carpenter took second on the

throw.  Andrew Romine got his chance to keep things going, but he went down

on strikes.  Miami totaled 9 hits on the night. 

 

The win was credited to Aaron Sanchez(1-0) who went 1 inning allowing 1 run.

Neftali Feliz recorded the save, his 2nd.  Darren O'Day(1-1) was the loser in

relief.  He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings allowing 2 hits and 1 walk.

 

 

 

 

Game 4:

Jeff Samardzija carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Boston Strong

topped the Miami Marlins in 10 innings by a score of 4 to 0 at Marlins

Park.

 

The score was knotted at zero after nine innings.  Boston won the game in the

10th inning.  The crucial at-bat was provided by Chris Coghlan who

disappointed the partisan crowd when he tripled scoring two baserunners.

Boston finished with 8 hits while Miami ended up with 2. 

 

Jared Hughes(2-1) got the win allowing no runs in 2 innings.  The right-handed

Samardzija lost a no-hitter when Julio Teheran singled with nobody out in the

6th inning.  Buddy Carlyle(0-2) was given the loss in relief.

 

 

 

 

Game 5:

Marlins                  5 11  0

 

Second baseman Cliff Pennington went deep at Marlins Park where the Miami

Marlins beat the Boston Strong 5 to 4.

 

Miami took the lead for keeps in the bottom of the 4th inning scoring a single

run.  Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 4th inning with no runs scored

after that point. 

 

The victory was credited to Jacob Degrom(3-0) who went 6 and 1/3 innings,

allowing 4 runs. Ken Giles recorded the save, his 3rd.  The losing pitcher

was Kyle Lohse(2-2).  He got hit hard, allowing 8 hits and 2 walks in 4 and

1/3 innings.
