San Francisco Gloom

Future of the Franchise

Lance McCullers

Lance McCullers ended up with a career 28-31 record, 39 saves, and 3.25 ERA. His bright career was derailed however with arm injuries. His one great regret, he was never able to pitch in the post season....

Wait, hold up, career was derailed.....

Oh yeah, that would be the career stat line on Lance McCullers Sr. Lance McCullers Jr., however, who was drafted by San Francisco in the 2015 Rookie Draft, is just getting started.

McCullers Jr. was promoted to the Majors directly from AA, skipping a trip to the AAA club completely. In his 22 starts in his rookie campaign of 2015, he was 6-7 with a 3.22 ERA.

His pitches have been described as wicked. One writer extoled the awesome movement he witnessed :"It looked like a sinker crossed with a screwball, sprinkled with the kind of black magic you’d only encounter in a nightmare."

This is what San Fran's advanced scouts saw as they penciled in his name on their draft board. Bring it National League hitters, Lance Jr. will be waiting.

Team MVP

Paul Goldschmidt

In 2013, when Goldschmidt was having a monster season, on his way to his first All-Star appearance, his teammates made shirts with his face, and a slogan plastered on: "America's First Baseman."

This caused Paul to blush so fiercly that he made all his teammates promise not to wear them.

While most players drive high dollar expensive cars, he pulls up to spring training in a Ford F-150. Where other players revel in their own statistics, he turns the channel when ESPN shows his. If highlights of his previous day's glories flash up, he exists the room.

This "ah-shucks ego-grounded" player is a perfect fit for San Fran. He will blend into a team that themselves, typically blend into the background.

But don't look for his bat to lessen any time soon. He's still learning, and can be a moster force for many years to come. Just don't mention it to him, unless you want to see a grown man flush and turn away.
