Atlanta Tomahawks

Future of the Franchise

Chris Archer

His story is as old as baseball itself. It could be written for every player who has laced up his cleats and dug into the batters box. He was a home-body who loved his dad's cooking so much, he would drive home every night after he had already moved out, just to pick up his dinner.

His parents have had a profound effect upon his career and life. Archer's father taught him how to pitch from the stretch, imploring him to master the stretch before he attempted the wind up. His mother rounded up a gross of feral cats who now live in their garage, because the Animal Control was clearing out the neighborhood.

His story is not at all predictable however. And when Atlanta traded for Chris Archer, they traded for the man, not just the player. Because while he calls him his "father", in actuality, he is his grandfather. Chris grew up being raised by his grandparents, while his biological mother skipped town chasing another guy. But, this is only a part of the story of the man Chris Archer. A part that would give way to the story of the great athlete and pitcher.

In his first full season as a starter in 2014, Archer led his team in games started and innings pitched. Tied a club record with 16 starts allowing one ER or fewer, set a club record with a ratio of .55 homeruns allowed per 9, and after a rough eight game start to season, ended up with a 2.77 ERA over a span of 24 starts. He is a potential ace with a bright future and has the potential to be the face of the franchise for many years.
