Game1:

Catcher Russell Martin smashed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Boston Strong

beat the Oakland Athletics by a score of 11 to 6.

 

Martin had a big evening at the plate.  He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in

the 1st inning, doubled bringing in a run in the 2nd inning and lifted one

out of the park for a two run home run in the 4th inning.  Boston had a total

of 13 hits for the game. 

 

The win went to Jared Hughes(1-1) who allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings.

Edinson Volquez(1-1) was the loser.  His biggest problem was control as he

allowed 6 walks in 3 and 1/3 innings. 

 

Martin was in a good mood after the game, 'I'm just seeing and hitting the

ball real well now.  I made some adjustments last week and they are paying

off.  That's what this game is about. making adjustments as the season goes

along.'

 

 

 

 

Game 2:

Third baseman Nolan Arenado had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Boston Strong

defeated the Oakland Athletics by a score of 7 to 1 at Fenway Park.

 

Boston brought 4 runs across the plate in the 2nd inning when they came up

with 4 base hits.  That early scoring held up.  Both teams ended up with 9

hits on the night. 

 

Kyle Lohse(2-0) was the winner allowing 1 run in 7 and 1/3 innings. Dan

Haren(1-1) was charged with the loss.  He was hit hard and gave up 9 hits and

2 walks in 5 innings.

 

 

 

 

 

Game 3:

Angel Pagan had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Oakland Athletics won a dandy at

O.co Coliseum over the Boston Strong, 4 to 3.

 

The game was won by Oakland when they scored a run in the 9th inning.  Pablo

Sandoval doubled.  Two outs later Pagan stepped in and he banged out a single

giving Oakland the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy.  Oakland

had 7 hits for the night while Boston had 4. 

 

Kevin Correia(1-0) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Josh

Edgin(0-1) was given the loss in relief.  He surrendered 2 hits and no walks

in 2/3 of an inning. 

 

 

 

 

 

Game 4:

Jeff Samardzija pitched 6 strong innings as the Boston Strong defeated the

Oakland Athletics by a score of 2 to 1 at O.co Coliseum.

 

Boston had 2 runs cross the plate in the 3rd inning when they came up with 3

base hits.  That was all the runs Samardzija(2-1) needed.  Both teams' bats

went to sleep after the 3rd inning with no runs scored after that point.

 

Joe Smith was credited with his 2nd save.  Jason Hammel(0-1) suffered the

loss.  He surrendered 2 runs and 5 hits in 8 innings.

 

 

 

 

 

Game 5:

Athletics                6 15  2

 

Right fielder Josh Reddick ripped 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at O.co Coliseum

where the Boston Strong beat the Oakland Athletics in 12 innings 8 to 6.

 

The score was knotted at 6 after nine innings.  Boston ended up winning it in

the 12th inning.  Gregor Blanco led off the inning for Boston when he

delivered a base-hit.  Brandon Kintzler then let loose a wild pitch.  Martin

Maldonado was the next batter, but he struck out.  Reddick followed next and

he bombed a two-run dinger.  Andrelton Simmons came to the plate and smacked

a single.  One out later, Brian Dozier came up and he reached on an error.

Tom Wilhelmsen struck out, unable to help the rally.  Boston had a total of

17 hits for the game. 

 

The victory was credited to Wilhelmsen(1-0) who went 1 and 2/3 innings,

allowing no runs. Wilhelmsen got help from Fernando Abad who earned his 1st

save.  Kintzler(0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief. 

 

Reddick said, 'It was just all timing. I had pretty good rhythm at the plate

tonight.  You've got to take advantage of mistakes when you can.  A couple

pitches were definitely up a little bit - right in my zone.'
