Tampa Bay Renegades vs  Boston Strong

Game 1:

Right fielder Josh Reddick had 4 hits and 5 RBI as the Boston Strong defeated

the Tampa Bay Renegades by the score of 8 to 3 at Fenway Park.

 

Reddick helped send the fans home happy.  He laced a base-knock which brought

home a run in the 1st inning, stroked a one-base hit plating a run in the 3rd

inning, laced a base-hit which scored a run in the 4th inning and ripped a

base-knock which was good for two runs in the 6th inning.  Boston ended up

with 13 hits for the game while Tampa Bay had 8. 

 

The win went to Jeff Samardzija(1-0) who allowed 3 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings.

Jake Arrieta(0-1) took the loss.  He allowed a few too many baserunners

giving up 10 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings. 

 

 

 

 

Game 2:

The Boston Strong readily handled Tampa Bay Renegades by a score of 5 to 1 at

Fenway Park.

 

Boston jumped on top of Tampa Bay in the 6th inning scoring one runner.

Andrew McCutchen reached on an error.  Zach Walters stepped into the batter's

box and he delivered a single.  Michael McKenry followed, but he was set down

on strikes.  Avisail Garcia was a strikeout victim, unable to help out.

Justin Morneau was the next batter, but he struck out.  Boston out-hit Tampa

Bay for the game, 10 hits to 6. 

 

The victory was credited to Darren O'Day(1-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no

runs. Chris Sale(0-1) was given the loss.  While he was the losing pitcher,

he still struck out 13 batters in 6 innings. 

 

 

 

 

Game 3:

Renegades           1  1  0

 

 

Michael Pineda had a strong outing as the Tampa Bay Renegades beat the Boston

Strong in 11 innings by a score of 1 to 0.

 

The score was knotted at zero after nine innings.  Finally, Tampa Bay

prevailed in the 11th inning.  Dee Gordon reached on an error.  Juan Lagares

was next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Jared Hughes then bounced one in

the dirt for a wild pitch giving Tampa Bay the victory and sending the 45,474

home-town fans home happy.  Tampa Bay finished with just 1 hit in the

victory. 

 

Dellin Betances(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. The

losing pitcher was Hughes(0-1) in relief.  He allowed 1 run and no hits in

1/3 of an inning.

 

 

 

Game 4:

Renegades           2  9  0

 

Drew Smyly had a strong outing and second baseman Dee Gordon had 3 base hits

at Tropicana Field as the Tampa Bay Renegades beat the Boston Strong 2 to

0.

 

Tampa Bay scored 2 runs in the decisive bottom of the 2nd inning when they had

3 base hits.  Lucas Duda led off the inning for Tampa Bay when he laced a

base-knock.  Justin Turner stepped up next and he laced a single.  Juan

Francisco then hit a deep fly.  Juan Lagares came up and he laid down a

sacrifice bunt.  Gordon stepped into the box and slapped a one-base hit.

Gordon took second on the throw.  Gordon proceeded to steal third base.  That

was all the offense they were to need.  The pitchers took over after the 2nd

inning as neither team was able to score again. 

 

Smyly(1-0) was credited with the shutout, his first of the year. Jeff

Samardzija(1-1) was hit with the loss.  He pitched 7 innings allowing 9 hits

and 1 walk.

 

 

 

Game 5:

Renegades           2  8  0

 

The Boston Strong and the Tampa Bay Renegades locked up in an exciting one-run

game at Tropicana Field.  The final score was the Boston Strong 3, the Tampa

Bay Renegades 2.

 

Boston scored all of the necessary runs in the 7th inning when they tallied 3

runs on 3 hits.  The key at-bat was by Michael McKenry who helped quiet the

crowd when he doubled bringing in two baserunners.  Tampa Bay had a chance in

the 9th but they came up short. 

 

Kyle Lohse(1-0) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. Lohse got help

from Joe Smith who was credited with his 1st save.  Jake Arrieta(0-2) took

the loss.

 

 

 

 

Game 6:

 

Enegades             2  8  0

Strong                   3  6  1

 

 

The Boston Strong edged the Tampa Bay Renegades in 14 innings at Fenway Park

by the score of 3 to 2.

 

The score was tied at 2 after nine.  Boston won the game in the 14th inning.

Nolan Arenado doubled.  Josh Reddick next to the plate and he laid down a

sacrifice bunt.  One out later, Drew Smyly then let one get away for a wild

pitch resulting in an exciting win for Boston and a raucous post-game

celebration by the home town fans.  Boston had only 6 hits for the game.

 

Fernando Abad(1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Tyler

Clippard(0-1) was the losing pitcher in relief.  He allowed 1 hit and no

walks in 1/3 of an inning.
